Landscape Istanbul Fair 2024 to deliver thought leadership and product innovation!

When Landscape Istanbul Fair 2025 (LIF 2025) opens its doors from 08-11 October, it will host an impressive line up of international thought leaders and market leading suppliers for four days of high-quality industry content and business exchange.
The World Urban Parks Symposium will be held for three days between 08-10 October 2025, where it is free to attend for pre-registered delegates.
Boasting a line-up of international speakers who are undoubtedly some of the most knowledgeable and influential experts in their field, attendees will be treated to presentations detailing case studies and latest thought leadership on key issues for planning and maintenance of parks and urban green spaces.

"The Next Generation of Cities and Public Spaces"

We will use the acronym NEXT to represent four key thematic axes essential to urban development:

Nature & Climate Resilience
Reconnecting Cities with Nature
• Urban forests, green corridors, and nature-based solutions for climate adaptation.
• Resilient parks mitigating impacts of extreme weather such as heat waves and flooding.
• Promoting urban biodiversity: Designing spaces supporting local ecosystems.
• Moving towards carbon-neutral cities through integrated green infrastructure.
Equity & Inclusive Cities
Public Spaces for Everyone
• Inclusive urban design prioritizing accessibility, gender sensitivity, and universal design.
• Empowering community-led management to foster better public spaces.
• Enhancing public spaces as social, cultural, and mental wellness hubs.
• Championing inclusive playgrounds and promoting quality over quantity in urban open spaces.

Experience & Innovation in Public Spaces
The Future of Urban Life & Interaction
• The evolving nature of public spaces influenced by mobility, digital connectivity, and shifting lifestyles.
• Innovative playgrounds, urban furniture, and equipment designs.
• Activating cities through placemaking and tactical urbanism.
• Encouraging vibrant nighttime urban environments.

Thoughtful Water & Resource Management
Sustainable Water & Climate Strategies
• Sponge cities and water-sensitive urban design for effective flood and drought management.
• Transforming waterfronts with parks, blue spaces, and coastal resilience solutions.
• Adopting circular water systems for sustainable stormwater management and water conservation.

These themes will guide our discussions and presentations at the World Urban Parks Symposium, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the question of how the next generation of cities and public spaces will be shaped.

"Great Dixter: How a Garden can Support Great Biodiversity"(10:40 - 11:25)

Great dixter’s biodiversity audit showed the garden to be far richer in species than the countryside around it. The studies at great dixter shed light on the complex habitats which support life including some of the most threatened species in the united kingdom. This means that all gardens can play their part in supporting wildlife collectively forming a mosaic system which can be replicated in towns and cities. The greatdixter study has been influential throughout the world and has been refereed by many as the most important horticultural research done internationally in the last 25 years. If you are measuring biodiversity as the number of different species per m3 Great Dixter is in the top 10 richest places in the United Kingdom.

"Cities as Playgrounds: Having the freedom to play in every corner of the city."
(13:15 - 14:00)

Cities, by their very design, offer opportunities for structured and unstructured games in built playgrounds and sports fields, while also hosting more spontaneous games and playful activities by utilizing the urban infrastructure and shaping it according to the playful logic of city dwellers. These games are quite diverse. This diversity, which we can call urban play, is a form of existence. It is a framework for reimagining the world. It reveals many potentials and possibilities. The common feature of all these games and activities is that they take place outside the cultural boundaries set aside for playing in the new urban order and creatively invade both physical and digital spaces. This invasion has recently given rise to the concept of the “playable city” as a counterpoint to the concept of the “smart city.” Within the scope of the concept of a playable city, in recent years in Istanbul, as stated in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, many studies, productions, and collaborations have been carried out to make the city a place where everyone living in the city, especially children, can fully enjoy their right to play. Work has been carried out with Istanbul residents to improve play opportunities in public spaces for children and young people in the city and to contribute to community life. This presentation shares our experiences on how the city's streets can be made safer, healthier, more fun, more creative, more social, and more “playable” through play, which is a very important part of life and a universal common ground for all living beings. We value sharing and discussing these experiences because a city that is more suitable for children to live in is a better city for everyone. Hope you enjoy the presentation...

“Urban Biodiversity, Endemic Species, and Nature-Based Approaches: Atatürk Cultural Park”
(16:05 - 16:30)

Atatürk Cultural Park, one of the largest urban parks in Antalya, covers an area of 308,000 sqm and makes significant contributions to the urban ecosystem. With its natural landscape, cliff formations, scrubland areas, and artificial ponds, it offers a rich living space. The park is home to more than 40 animal species and over 150 natural plant species including four local endemic and one rare plant species. The Atatürk Cultural Park project has translated Antalya’s sustainability vision into an institutional framework, gaining international recognition through membership in the World City Parks Association and making significant strides toward global standards with its Green Flag Certification process. The long-term goal of the project is to expand this model to the green spaces in all 19 districts of Antalya, preserving and promoting the city’s rich flora and fauna diversity. In this regard, the project stands out not only for its ecological impact but also for its social, economic, and cultural contributions, enhancing Antalya's brand value. It serves as a unique and innovative example that could inspire other municipalities.
